Photographic Prints

Prints can be ordered of any of the photographs displayed on this website. There are several print types and a range of print sizes available. Based on information specified in the Contact Form, I will quote the price and approximate delivery schedule.  My goal is to provide you with the highest quality print available, consistent with expectations by fine art museums. The original photographs were made with high resolution, full frame cameras, mostly with the Nikon D850, which allow large, sharp prints up to 45 x 30 inches.

The techniques used in photographic print making have progressed rapidly over the last few decades.  Summarized below are five options, from lowest to highest in price, which I can recommend and provide.

1.    Chromogenic prints made using ultra-high resolution laser scanners on archival photo-print paper.  These C-prints have greater tonal range and higher resolution than old-fashioned enlarger prints. You can have local frame shops mat and frame these prints according to your preferences.

2.    Giclee prints are made using archival inks and papers and high-resolution inkjet printers. We recommend Hahnemühle Photo Rag Baryta paper in semigloss which gives the highest quality, fidelity, and archival images.  Again, you can arrange for framing locally.

3.    Gallery Box prints come ready to hang and are based on C-prints mounted on an archival substrate and covered with a protective, optically clear anti-glare film. The print is surrounded by a 1-inch box frame which gives it a clean, modern, slim but substantial look. It is most economical overall because of the built-in frame and has become quite popular. A picture below shows the details.

4.    Metal prints are relatively new, offering an intense visual experience with high color saturation, great tonal range, and fine detail. The image tends to pop strikingly off the surface. The photograph is printed using special inks, which are then are fused under heat and pressure into a special coating on the metal surface. The print includes its mount which appears to float off the wall surface. It is midway in cost between Gallery prints and Acrylic prints.

5.    TruLife Diasec Acrylic prints represent the state-of-the-art of modern photographic print making. They are prized by fine art collectors and museums.  The images have great color intensity, sharpness, tonal range and pop.  The TruLife acrylic surface blocks much of the glare from windows in the daytime while preserving the image contrast and detail. The consensus among collectors, museums and artists is that these prints set the highest standards. A picture below shows the layer details.
